Grizz and Gizmo – special needs conure pair
Grizz and Gizmo are a spirited pair of bonded clutch mates that came to Birdline when they were about 4 months old with splayed legs. Unfortunately, it was too late to correct their legs, but they have learned to adapt beautifully and don’t even realize they are different than other birds! They both are very active and have learned to trust their foster parent but are sometimes still a bit hand shy. They enjoy time outside of their cage, either on their own exploring, or on a shoulder. They love playing with your phone and chewing on your hair and will give little kisses on your cheeks. They are very gentle! Their favourite toy is anything they can destroy and rip apart. They love their fresh fruit and vegetables in the morning and make a fuss until breakfast is served.

Grizz is the leader of the two and is very curious. If there is something new to look at, Grizz is always the bravest one to check things out before Gizmo. Grizz also seems the most willing to be picked up and handled and has learned a whistle from the foster parent!

Gizmo is the follower, but that doesn’t mean Gizmo is shy! Gizmo loves taking baths in their water dish (even when other options are presented) and enjoys watching conure videos on the phone. Wherever Grizz is, Gizmo is not too far away, this includes stepping up onto your hands.

Since their legs are splayed, and they haven’t grown back their very shortly clipped wing feathers, they tend to land on their keel when they try to fly or fall. Careful attention needs to be taken to insure they don’t injure themselves.

These birds are such a joy to be around and deserve an owner that is willing to be patient and bond with them at their pace. They still can be fearful, but they are growing into confident conures with each positive experience. They have bonded well with their foster parents and can tell them apart from strangers. They even call out to the foster parent when they leave the room! If that doesn’t say love, I don’t know what does! They now need an owner they can form an even deeper connection with so they continue thriving, could you be that person?
