Wings of Love Toy Drive – 2015

Our annual “Wings of Love” toy drive begins this week!

This year, the “Wings of Love” parrot tree will be located at the Calgary Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic :

On this page you will find a variety of items that have been chosen that we use alot of for the birds who call Birdline home.

The toys can be purchased online via Parrot Trends and then will be shipped to us by Dec 23rd.

We chose Parrot Trends as the online store of choice as they carry a wide selection of parrot toys – they are locally located just outside Calgary and do not sell live animals therefore supporting our mandate of “adopt – don’t shop”

Pet Valu also has a small variety of parrot toys and is a supporter of Birdline and does not sell animals.

The Harrison’s food can also be purchased at Parrot Trends or at the Vet Clinic.

And if you can’t decide what to get, donations can also be accepted and placed onto the account for Birdline at the Vet Clinic.

Any items can be left at the Vet Clinic if you choose to drop them off.

Here is the 2015 wishlist for the flock at Birdline. Any of these items are used within the flock – and would be greatly appreciated.

This is a favorite toy with the smaller birds!

We never seem to have enough bowls. Most of the birds have at least 4 bowls – sometimes five – pellets/extra foot toys etc.

Foot toys – these are great for the medium birds – often times when they get here they have atrophy beginning in their feet – these help with dexterity and keep them busy for hours!

Harrisons is the main staple for all the birds – even the cockatiels and lovebirds. As we wean them off of seed we provide a variety of pellets and most of the birds choose this one.

We use alot of vet wrap surprisingly. For birds with missing toes or lack of strength in their feet, we will wrap their perches to make it easier for them to grip. Works great on playstands as well but we do have to change it out regularly to combat bacteria growth.

Avi Rain or pure aloe vera is perfect for those spray baths!

This is a great treat and call also be used for training.

We make our own birdie mash but sometimes a different blend is welcomed by the flock.

For those birds who don’t yet like Harrisons and some who can’t eat it (ekkies)this is a second choice.

We go through a box of millet every 3 weeks!

ANY size of rope perch is needed. We use these for ALL species along with various wood perches – mostly tree branches when we can source them.

We only use almonds or walnuts – no peanuts – and walnuts seem to be the favorite choice. We used over 50 lbs of these in less than 3 months!

Skewers are a great thing for any bird. You can use them to refill with toys or to provide a healthy vegetable snack.

ANY and all toy parts. We don’t buy alot of toys to better utilize funds elsewhere and will spend hours building different toys for the flock.

Paper rolls are the most favorite toys for the African Greys and the lovebirds. They keep busy with these for hours weaving them in the bars of the cage.

We use leather strips in our toy building for the smaller birds as they can’t chew through it. Its also great in making foot toys.

These SS baskets are amazing but very costly for us. They can be filled daily with toys/treats and encourages foraging for all species.

Anything pinata, wicker are a favorite with the cockatiels, smaller conures and the budgies. They LOVE these!

These large wood toys are perfect for the macaws.

These are just some ideas for those who are not sure what we need. We would be thrilled with anything you choose and the flock would be happy as well.
